Kees Berendsen has been a partner at Croon Davidovich Advocaten since 1 October 2006. Together with Menno Schmidt and Yonie Scheijde, he runs the Intellectual Property Law and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) practices.
Expertise
Kees particularly advises and litigates in the fields of copyright law, information and media law, trademark law, design law and portrait law. He advises e.g. companies in the creative and entertainment-related sectors, such as museums, advertising agencies, media companies, architects, designers, and film and video producers. Kees furthermore also advises companies that do not operate in the creative sector, for which Kees’s expertise is extra valuable.
Career
Kees started his career as a lawyer at Stibbe. He was the incorporator of Beeldrecht (currently named Pictoright), a copyright organisation, of which he was Director for a long time. He was also one of the incorporators and a Board member of European Visual Artists (EVA), the European collective of copyright organisations.
That practical experience has given Kees thorough legal knowledge of copyright law and related areas of the law, and sound knowledge of how they are applied and used in practice. He has developed a rates system, has negotiated with numerous market parties on licensing agreements and has represented clients in many copyright cases that made history. Kees was awarded the Copyright Award by the Dutch Ministry of Justice for his merits. In 2003 he returned to the legal profession and set up the Croon Davidovich law firm together with fellow lawyers in 2006.
Education
Kees studied law at the Free University in Amsterdam.
